Class Assignment (due 4/23) – WordPress Plugins

Class, I would like you to do some “good” research on wordpress.org looking for cool plugins that you would like to use or you think others in the class would benefit from. Don’t just pick the first plugin you see!!!

Comment on this post with your research results.  Tell us about at least 2 different plugins that you think would be useful and why.   Be prepared to spend 2 minutes in our next class discussing your choice.

Class Assignment – jQuery/WordPress Photo Gallery plugins

Due Monday 4/2

There are many WordPress plugins that use jQuery to allow you to display your gallery of photos.  I would like the class to test as many of these plugins as possible.

For your final homework assignment, only 2 students will be allowed to use the same plugin.

To coordinate, you need to do your research early and post a comment to this blog post with the name of the plugin you want to use (include a link to the wordpress codex).  You need to read the other comments before you post.  If someone already said they are going to use the same plugin, then reply to their comment.  If 2 students already said they are using the plugin you want, then you have to go back and choose a different plugin…  Don’t procrastinate – do your research early.

Download the plugin from WordPress.org and install on your wordpress site like we did with the Twitter for WordPress plugin (use FireFTP to move the plugin folder to your site – under ../wp-content/plugins

Activate the plugin and use it on your Photo page for the 6 photos you have uploaded.

Class assignment – WordPress Plug-ins

Class – Since our WordPress sites are down at Scranton.edu because our MySQL server is down, we will not be having class tonight. Instead I am giving you a research assignment. I want you to go to www.wordpress.org/extend/plugins/ and look for an interesting Plug-in. By class on Wednesday (4/13), I want you to do the research and come back here and “comment” on this post.

Like prior assignments, you must comment on a “unique” plug-in. That means you must review the prior comments on the post to insure your Plugin has not already been commented on. Please include the name of the Plugin, a link (URL) to the Plugin description on wordpress.org, and then why you think the Plugin is interesting to you. You will also be presenting your findings to the class on Wednesday
